Unlikely Duo of Tournaments Added to Intertops´ Schedule

Intertops Poker

Intertops PokerThis weekend sees the anniversaries of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the first-ever TV broadcast of Sesame Street – and Intertops Poker is celebrating both.

For nearly thirty years, the Berlin Wall separated friends and family in the German city of Berlin. Built by the communists that controlled East Germany at the time, the wall was claimed to be protecting the population of East Berlin from fascists; but, in reality, all it did was prevent a flood of East German citizens defecting to the West. It is believed that between the end of the Second World War and 1961 (when construction on the wall started) more than 3.5 million people fled communism via Berlin.

In November 1989, following a series of anti-communist revolutions throughout Europe, citizens of both East Germany and West Germany embarked on weeks of civil unrest demanding checkpoints along the wall were permanently opened and that citizens of Berlin were allowed to travel freely from East to West. Eventually, East German authorities relented, and the crossing points were opened. The “fall of the wall” led to the reunification of Germany, and the demolition of the wall was completed two years later.

The Looking for Freedom Tournament

In the run-up to the fall of the Berlin Wall, one song dominated the German charts – David Hasselhoff´s “Looking for Freedom”. The song became an anthem for the citizens of East and West Berlin; and, following the opening of the crossing points, the former Knight Rider and Baywatch star performed the song from the top of the Berlin Wall to more than 100,000 thousand fans – forever sealing a connection between the song and the great political event that had just taken place.

Because of the song and its connection with the fall of the Berlin Wall, Intertops Poker has called its commemorative event the “Looking for Freedom Tournament”. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon at 2:10 pm (ET) and has a guaranteed prize pool of $1,500. Players can buy-in directly to the tournament for $22.00 or win a seat in daily satellite qualifiers with buy-ins of $2.20. Look for a “Looking for Freedom Satellite” in the tournament lobby.

The Sesame Street Anniversary Tournament

Twenty years before the fall of the Berlin Wall, an iconic children´s TV show premiered in 1969 – Sesame Street. Now about to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, Sesame Street is the longest-running and most successful children´s TV show in the world – having won more than 150 Emmy Awards for television excellence. It was the launchpad for Jim Henson´s Muppets, and thousands of famous people have appeared on the show from Beyoncé to Bob Hope to Michelle Obama.

Intertops Poker is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of Sesame Street with a special $500 guaranteed tournament on Sunday afternoon at 2:15 pm (ET). The tournament has a direct buy-in of $8.80, and the site is hosting two $0.88 buy-in satellites earlier on Sunday morning – both guaranteeing a minimum of one seat into the target event. Both this tournament and the Looking for Freedom tournament are timed to attract evening European players, so there should be a good turn-out for both.
