Our review of True Poker reveals that, as one of the smaller skins on the Winning Poker Network, the site doesn´t share the same strengths and opportunities as some of its more high-profile colleagues. However, if you already have an account with other sites at the Winning Poker Network, and are willing to put up with True Poker´s shortcomings in order to take advantage of the first deposit bonus click “PLAY NOW”. Please note that you do not need a True Poker bonus code to take advantage of the site´s first deposit bonus
Introduction to True Poker
February, 2019 – True Poker was originally launched in 2002 and, at the time, attracted plenty of attention for its innovative software. The site joined the Winning Poker Network in 2011 and, as other sites subsequently joined the network, players at True Poker enjoyed greater liquidity at the tables, higher guarantees in poker tournaments and an extensive range of lucrative promotions.
However, aside from Network-wide improvements and promotions, the site has not really advanced since 2011. Therefore, unless you already have accounts with every other USA friendly poker site and are looking to take advantage of the site´s first deposit bonus offer, I would suggest you avoid True Poker for the following reasons:
5 Reasons to Avoid True Poker
- True Poker does not offer new players the same “Twenty Days of Free Poker” promotion as Americas Cardroom.
- The site does not benefit from the same software features as Americas Cardroom or Black Chip Poker.
- Players at True Poker do not have access to the WPN Freebuy tournaments offering free seats in valuable Network events.
- You can’t play True Poker on a Mac. Unfortunately, network-wide support for Mac is pretty poor. I recommend you to play at Ignition Poker on a Mac.
- There is no True Poker mobile app. Some sites on WPN offer a reasonable mobile experience, but none are as good as BetOnline Poker’s mobile app.
True Poker Bonus Code
True Poker offers new players a Network-standard 100% match bonus on their first deposits up to a maximum $1,000. As mentioned at the top of the page, there is no True Poker bonus code required to take advantage of this offer. Simply click on a link on this page to visit the site and you will be eligible for the bonus automatically when you make your first deposit. You will also receive a maximum of four entries into the site´s $250.00 Depositor Freeroll tournaments, immediately start earning points for the True Poker Elite Benefits program and be able to cash in your points for cash and tournament entry tickets in the site´s online store.
Unlike online casino bonuses, the True Poker bonus is not added to your account immediately. It is kept in a special bonus account and released into your real money account at the rate of $1.00 for each 27.5 Award Points you collect. You get Award Points when you pay into a cash game pot from which rake is deducted and each time you enter a poker tournament. You can monitor how many Award Points you have at any time via the player admin section of the poker software and you have sixty days to collect as many Award Points as you need to transfer as much bonus money as possible into your real money account – if not all of it.
No True Poker Software for Mac or Mobile
The software download is easy perform, easy to navigate, stable and has plenty of features. Sadly, if you want to play True Poker on a Mac, the downloadable software is presently only available for Windows. An “Instant Play” alternative would be a good idea, so you could play in a web browser, but that does not appear to be high on the Network´s list of priorities.
The Network has been recently putting beta Mac software through its paces, and it is hoped that it will be released on True Poker in the near future. If you were hoping for a mobile version of the software, that too may require patience. There are plans to introduce a limited number of games playable on Android or iOS mobile devices but at the moment these are just plans.
True Poker Elite Benefits
True Poker uses the same player reward program as its Network colleagues – the Elite Benefits program. Players earn Benefit Points at the rate of 5.5 points for each $1.00 contributed to the rake or paid to enter a tournament, Jackpot Poker game or Sit & Go game. Benefit Points are used to determine a player´s status in the Elite Benefits program and then converted into Player Points at the rate applicable for the status level.
Players Points can be converted into cash, cash bonuses or tournament entry tickets in the True Poker online store. During certain promotions, it is also possible to exchange Player Points for packages in live poker events. Players also receive “Legendary Bonuses” and “Achievement Rewards” for reaching predetermined milestones, and although the Elites Benefits program is potentially lucrative, it doesn´t make up for the site´s other shortcomings.
The Standard of Competition at True Poker
As with any online poker site that is affiliated with a major poker network, you are going to find some good players and some weak ones at True Poker. As a rule, the standard of competition at True Poker increases as the stakes rise, but you should not be fooled into thinking that the low stakes cash games or low buy-in tournaments are easy – far from it.
Many cash game players multi-table up to 40 tables at a time to take advantage of the Beast weekly rake race – a promotion that pays out around $75,000 each week in cash prizes and tournament entries. Spreading a bankroll over 40 tables at a time means that good players come down in the stakes to take maximum advantage of the opportunities. We would suggest that any new player uses a little caution (and the notes facility) when playing against players that appear over-tight or incredibly slow to act.
We should also comment that many of the world´s top players compete in the valuable tournaments at True Poker. The Network frequently hosts “Million Dollar Sunday” events – one of which was recently won by UK professional and EPT Prague winner Rupert Elder. Elder beat a field that included Mike “Timex” McDonald and Josh Beckley – runner-up in the 2015 WSOP Main Event.
The Variety of Games Offered By True Poker
True Poker offers plenty of cash game opportunities for players who enjoy playing Texas Hold´em Poker, Omaha Poker, and Omaha Hi/Lo Poker. Nearly all of the tournaments are played in NL Texas Hold´em format, but True Poker has recently acknowledged that there is a market for valuable Omaha events and now hosts an “Omaha Sunday Special”.
Players who prefer their games to be over a little quicker have a comprehensive range of Sit & Go games to choose from, including True Poker´s “Jackpot Poker” game – a three-handed hyper-turbo in which players can win up to 2,500 times the cost of entry. The top prize of $100,000 has been won a couple of times recently (for a $40.00 buy-in), so you can imagine how popular the Jackpot Poker games are right now!
Customer Support & Player Security
The Customer Service team can be contacted by live chat, email (email@example.com) and their toll free phone number (+1-877-314-4195). Generally, we found that the Customer Service reps were well clued-up about the most frequently asked questions when we tested them on live chat. Email responses took a few hours but gave more in-depth answers to our questions than could be found on the site´s Help section.
Player security is taken very seriously at True Poker. All activity on the poker tables is monitored and any signs of chip-dumping or collusion are thoroughly investigated by the network´s security team. Player funds are maintained in separate accounts and True Poker insists that every player verifies their identity before allowing them to withdraw from their account.
True Poker – Pros/Cons
No online poker site is going to be absolutely perfect for everybody, and these are some of our likes and dislikes of playing at True Poker. First the dislikes:
- We are still waiting for True Poker to be available for Mac and mobile.
- We really don´t like some of the tournament extended late registration periods.
- The fees for P2P cashouts on Western Union and MoneyGram are expensive.
If you can get over the lack of a native Mac or mobile client, don´t care about extended late registration periods and can use an alternative cash out method (you can now withdraw using Bitcoin), there is plenty to like about True Poker. Our top three likes were:
- True Poker´s Elite Benefits program. It is based on the original PokerStars rewards program before all the changes, so you know it is going to be good.
- The Beast rake race has grown over the years from a monthly leaderboard competition paying out around $25,000 to a weekly event with more than $75,000 up for grabs.
- The Winning Poker Network´s weekly “Sunday Special” is the most valuable online poker tournament among all USA friendly poker sites.
True Poker Review: My Conclusion
Existing players at True Poker have benefitted enormously from the success of the Winning Poker Network, but the site itself has failed to move on since 2011. Consequently, new players looking for a site to test their poker skills could enjoy a better poker experience elsewhere. Indeed, the only reason to register for an account with True Poker is you wish to take advantage of the bonus offer. There is no restriction on players having multiple Winning Poker Network accounts, you just won´t be allowed to sign into more than one account at the same time.
Remember, there is no specific True Poker promotion code needed if you wish to take advantage of the site´s first deposit bonus, and all the time you are collecting Award Points to clear the bonus, you will also be improving your status in the True Poker Elite Benefits program. If you have never considered True Poker as a venue for your online poker action, and have account s elsewhere on the Winning Poker Network, you might want to consider True Poker. If you do not yet have an account at any of the Winning Poker Network sites, I suggest Black Chip Poker or Americas Cardroom as the better options.
