WSOP Takes the Lead in New Jersey Online Poker Gaming

For the past few months, WSOP NJ has fallen behind PokerStars when it comes to earning online poker revenues in the Garden State. The rivals work hard to offer the best in poker options so they can remain at the top. For June, WSOP was able to push ahead, along with 888poker. They work together on the All American Poker Network and earned almost $1.4 million last month. This was just enough to beat out PokerStars, which earned just over $1.2 million.

Moving Up

WSOP was able to take the lead due to what they were offering last month. The brand was holding cash games and tournaments of course, but also special options. They took over the top spot by hosting the $1.5 million Online Finale Circuit Series, where 12 gold rings were up for grabs. The site also provided a Player Appreciation tournament that offered up $100,000 in guaranteed prize money.

On top of that, the WSOP also offer several freerolls and bonuses, which caused players to keep coming back and playing at the site. The Online Series was a big deal and as players are restricted to their homes due to Covid-19, they simply enjoyed online poker as a way to have entertainment during this trying time.

PokerStars and partypoker Offering

For PokerStars, they did not slack off in June. They offered a special Summer Series, which included 40 events and a total of $500,000 in prize money on offer. While this was a nice size guarantee, it was far less than what was offered at WSOP, which helped the brand move to the first-place position.

For the partypoker US offering, the online poker brand along with BetMGM and the Borgata managed to only bring in $915,000. The network offered the WPT Online Poker Open in June, which was a first for the industry. This option offered up $300,000 in prize money. The partypoker US Network Online Series also took place, providing 21 tournament events.

Partypoker is doing well but cannot seem to gain enough ground to jump into the number two or one spot in New Jersey. They are about to launch in Pennsylvania, one they gain final approval. If they launch in the state, they may begin to share player liquidity in New Jersey.

For June, the online poker market earned around $3.5 million in total. With the figures being much higher in 2020, mostly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the state is on track to see a record year when it comes to online poker earnings.

Right now, the record year was set in 2014, when the state earned $29 million. In 2019, the state generated almost $21 million. Right now, just after six months of operation, the Garden State has seen just over $20 million in earnings. They are close to outpacing last year and on track to beat their best year from 2014. We shall see by the end of the year just how much online poker can generate and if it is enough to beat the old record.
