The popular online poker tournament series is back for a 5th year. The 2017 GSPO will feature $3 million in guaranteed prizes!
My Ignition Poker review looks at the site from the perspective of players who migrated to the site from the former Bovada Poker in September 2016 and from the perspective of new online poker players. It explains what players in both categories can expect from the relatively new site and how to take advantage of the excellent range of promotions and bonuses. Introduction to Ignition Poker
October, 2017 – Ignition Poker was first launched in the summer of 2016 as a US-exclusive online poker site. Initially it was believed to be a skin on the Bodog/Bovada Poker Network as it used the same platform and shared the same database. However, in August 2016 the announcement was made that Bovada Poker was closing and that players on the site should transfer their accounts to Ignition Poker.
Effectively, Ignition Poker is the new name for Bovada Poker. As well as hosting the same anonymous cash game tables and tournaments, Ignition Poker uses the same method of calculating Poker Points for player bonuses and rewards. It also has the same pop-up information on its website about how to deposit with Bitcoin – an important consideration for players wanting to maximize profitability.
Ignition Poker Bonus
At the time of writing this Ignition Poker review, the Ignition Poker bonus is being advertised as a $2,000 Welcome Bonus. It is important to note that only $1,000 of the Welcome Bonus relates to online poker – the rest is a bonus for playing at the Ignition Casino. As a side note, the Ignition Casino bonus is pretty good. It has a low rollover requirement if you like playing slots and there is plenty of time allowed to clear it. Further information about this bonus can be found in my Ignition Casino review.
The Ignition Poker bonus is cleared by earning Poker Points for contributing to the rake deducted from cash game pots or for paying a fee to enter a Sit & Go game or online poker tournament. Points are awarded according to the following table, and released in eight increments as certain milestones are reached:
|Rake Paid||Points Awarded|
|$1.00 – $3.00||1|
|$0.50 – $0.99||0.5|
|$0.25 – $0.49||0.25|
|$0.05 – $0.24||0.1|
|$0.01 – $0.04||0.05|
- Bonus Level 1 ($5.00) is reached when you have earned 15 Poker Points.
- When you have earned 85 Poker Points in total, the second increment of $20 is released.
- The third increment of $25.00 is released when you reached the milestone of 185 Poker Points.
- You will need to earn a further 215 Poker Points to release the next increment of $50.00.
- Level 5 ($100.00) is reached when you hit the milestone of 1,000 Poker Points.
- You will need a further 1,500 Poker Points before the sixth increment of $200.00 is released.
- The penultimate milestone ($250.00) is reached when you have earned 5,000 Poker Points in total.
- The last of the increments ($350.00) is released when you have 10,000 Poker Points.
If you deposit an amount between the incremental milestones (for example $250), the milestones remain the same up to Level 5. The remainder of the bonus is cleared at the rate applicable for Level 6, so you would need to earn an additional 375 Poker Points to redeem the last $50.00 of your Ignition Poker bonus.
Please note, players only receive 30 days in which to clear the Ignition Poker bonus. Any outstanding bonus at the end of the 30 day period will be forfeited. Bonus amounts are credited within 24 hours of a milestone being reached and there is no specific Ignition Poker bonus code required to take advantage of the offer.
Ignition Poker Download, Mac and Mobile Compatibility
The Ignition Poker download is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. When you click on the “Download Poker” button to start the installation process, Ignition´s software will identify which of the two operating systems you are using and send the appropriate file to your computer. The minimum system requirements are Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.7 (or later) with 200 MB of free space and 1 GB of memory.
Players who want to play Ignition Poker on a mobile do not need to download any software or apps. Simply visit the site from your iPhone or Android device and log into your account. The Ignition Poker mobile website will give you the choice of playing in any of the site´s cash games or at its Zone Poker tables, but not Sit & Go games or online poker tournaments. You will also be limited to playing one table at a time on your mobile.
The Choice of Games at Ignition Poker
The choice of cash games is fairly standard. Players have a choice of Texas Hold´em, Omaha and Stud on the standard tables, but only Texas Hold´em at the fast-fold Zone Poker tables. There is a good range of Sit & Go games and online poker tournaments running around the clock, with the site´s feature event being a $100,000 guaranteed tournament every Sunday.
As mentioned previously, one of the prime benefits of playing at the site is that players play anonymously. When you are first seated at a table, you are allocated a number which changes when you sit at another table. The purpose of this is so that professional players cannot benefit from new players´ inexperience. Anonymous tables level the playing field and give every player an equal chance.
Promotions and Player Rewards Program
For an online poker room trying to maintain its position as the #1 USA-friendly poker site, Ignition Poker´s promotions barely set the world alight. There are a handful of freeroll tournaments, and “Bad Beat” and “Royal Flush” promotions are in in progress. The site has maintained the former Bovada Poker tournament schedule – guaranteeing more than $2 million in prize pools each week – and, at the end of October, the Ignition Poker Golden Spade Open Championships will guarantee a further $2.5 million over 57 events.
The Player Rewards Program is also somewhat subdued at the time of writing this Ignition Poker review. The Player Points earned for contributing to the rake or for paying a tournament entry fee can be swapped at the rate of 200 Points per dollar for tournament entry tickets or casino bonuses. There is a limit on how much can be exchanged each month, no cash exchange option, and Player Points expire automatically at the end of May each year.
The Level of Competition and Volume of Traffic
Although I might not feel positive about the Ignition Poker promotions and Player Rewards Program, the level of competition and volume of traffic are major positives for the site. I have already mentioned how anonymous tables level the playing field between new and experienced players, and many “good” players – or those using poker tracking software – tend to stay away from Ignition Poker, enabling “decent” players to enjoy a lucrative experience simply by playing ABC poker.
The opportunity for “decent” players to enjoy a lucrative experience will drive thousands of players to Ignition Poker (based on historic levels of traffic at Bovada Poker) – ensuring that there are always cash games available, that Sit & Go games fill up quickly, and that the value of tournaments continues to grow. The level of competition and the volume of traffic are my two main reasons for recommending the site to players in the U.S.
Player Security and Customer Support
Being operated and regulated by the same parties as were responsible for Bovada Poker, I have every confidence that the high levels of player security and customer support will remain. Evidence from poker forums would tend to back up my beliefs, as players are reporting any queries they have had have been quickly and accurately resolved by the site´s customer support team.
Most queries can be answered by looking through the site´s extensive “Help” pages (click the Question Mark symbol at the top of the page) but, if you need more specific assistance, toll-free customer telephone support is available twenty-four hours a day. A brief browse through the poker forums also indicates that withdrawal requests are being attended to seamlessly.
Ignition Casino & Poker News
- Pro #1 – Assuming that the level of competition and volume of traffic remains the same as before, you should always get a game at Ignition Poker.
- Pro #2 – The software has been updated and has tons of customizable features. You can now play up to 20 tables at a time on the Windows download.
- Con #1 – The first deposit bonus is difficult to clear in its entirety in the time allowed. The promotions and Player Rewards program could also be improved.
- Con #2 – There are charges for depositing and withdrawing through any method other than Bitcoin. There are also quite low limits to how much you can withdraw.
2017 Ignition Poker Review Conclusion
Throughout this website, I advocate that you should not select an online poker room to play at because of the bonuses or promotions. This is particularly true at Ignition Poker if you are looking to cash in on a substantial first deposit bonus because of the effort you will have to put in to clear the bonus after Level 4. I also feel that Ignition Poker is missing an opportunity to attract new players by limiting the value of its Player Rewards program.
On the plus side, I believe that there are more opportunities at Ignition Poker for a new or recreational poker player to enjoy a long-term profitable online poker experience. The constant traffic at the cash tables and the high value of Ignition Poker tournaments suggest that this is a site for any player who prefers playing online poker on a level playing field.
